Captains Announced for 2016-2017 Season

After a great night of recognizing so many wrestlers who worked all season, we ended the evening by announcing our three captains for next season. They are Tom Monagle, Stathi Dandis and Mark Whalen.

All three students will be seniors on the team next season and are excited to represent the program well. All three are returning Varsity wrestlers with Mark Whalen being a Sectional Finalist from this past season.

Lewis a State Finalist; Whalen strong end to season

Brendan Lewis, fresh off his Sectional Championship had already accomplished his season goal but showed he wanted more than a Sectional Championship. With that, Lewis wrestled his was into the Division III State Finals. Although Brendan came up shy of capturing another postseason title, he was able to secure his highest finish in his four year career.

Mark Whalen, coming off a Sectional Finals too, did an outstanding job at the State Tournament. Mark had a tough loss his first match but was able to win his next one before bowing out and ending his season. Mark will be returning next season and look to build on a successful Junior campaign.

Canton Finishes 10th at Sectionals; 3 qualify for States

With the Sectional Tournament, every wrestler has the goal of not only placing high enough to earn a spot on the podium, but to also continue their season. This is difficult as there are only four wrestlers in each weight class who can definitivley move on.

We are fortunate to have Brendan Lewis and Mark Whalen automatically qualify for the state tournament while Freshman Harry Carter placed as an alternate. Junior Justin Dickie placed in the top 6 making it four wrestlers who placed overall at the tournament.

Brendan Lewis wraps up season with 8th place finish at MIAA All-States

It has been a long and successful season for Senior Captain Brendan Lewis and he finished on a high note with his top 8 placment at the MIAA All-State Tournament.

Brendan wrestled extremely well and finished the tournament with a 3-3 record, in which he rattled off three wins in a row after dropping his first match to make it to the placing round.

Brendan finishes his career as a three time sectional place winner, one time sectional champion, two time state place winner, one time state finalist and one time All-State place winner.

Another Champion; Lewis secures Sectional title

Every season, the postseason is something that every wrestler cannot wait for because of what is at stake. Brendan Lewis was no exception and had one goal in mind; to become another Canton Wrestler to join the ranks of becoming a Sectional Champion. Brendan not only did just that, but impressed so many other programs in his title run that he was voted the tournament Outstanding Wrestler, the highest postseason honor someone can earn.

Senior Success!
Seniors help secure win over Stoughton

Senior night is unlike any other dual meet. More than just the rivalry against another team that typically occurs on Senior night, but it is the last time that the Senior class will don a Canton uniform in front of their friends and family at Canton High School.

So when we can win our last home dual of the season on senior night, it is a special occassion. It was an exciting night filled with ups and downs and was a roller coaster of a meet. With the help of our seniors Brendan Lewis, Sean Murphy, Nic Lee, Chris Carstairs, John Cudmore and Caleb Nix we were able to send them off with a win. Thank you to the Senior Class of 2016 for a memorable meet and regular season.
